NBC TODAY Show Highlights Surgical Fire Safety at MD Anderson
This October, as the U.S. Food & Drug Administration launched
a new initiative to educate hospitals and surgical staff on
preventing fires in the operating room, gabbegroup worked
with NBC TODAY to showcase The University of Texas MD Anderson
Cancer Center’s efforts on this important patient safety issue
led by Dr. Charles Cowles, a former firefighter turned anesthesiologist
at MD Anderson. NBC traveled to MD Anderson during the institution’s
Fire Safety Week to film Dr. Cowles in action, capturing footage
in the operating room and at his educational demos to surgeons
and nurses. The final piece aired on the TODAY Show in early
November with commentary by Dr. Nancy Snyderman and Matt Lauer.
