INTRODUCING THE GALVESTON NATIONAL LABORATORY
Providing an insider’s look at the premier biocontainment laboratory

The NIH-funded Galveston National Laboratory (GNL), opened in late 2008 at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), is the first national biocontainment facility of its kind on a U.S. university campus. The Laboratory marks a major step toward advancing the understanding of the most deadly infectious diseases and bioterrorism threats. To prepare for the launch, gabbegroup created a detailed backgrounder, conducting dozens of interviews with the world-renowned infectious disease experts at the GNL, community leaders who helped build support for the lab and other key members of the infectious disease community. The backgrounder, shared with more than 1,000 visitors and interested parties, became the cornerstone for providing scientists, the media, legislators and the NIH an in-depth look at genesis of one of America’s most important new health facilities.
